Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every morning my students come into class with huge smiles on their faces, ready to begin their day. Their toothless smiles show how excited they are to be at school and how eager they are to learn something new. My students come from all different types of families, most of which are bilingual, low-income households, and receive free or reduced price lunch. Many students from our community struggle with basic reading skills and do not progress as quickly as those students who come from financially stable families. Many do not have confidence in themselves when it comes to reading. That's why I believe that our students deserve these items.
Although many of my students have been affected by the recent Hurricane Harvey we had here in Texas, it doesn't affect their desire to learn.
Despite all the challenges they go through, I believe my students are the toughest and the most appreciative. My students are honest individuals who do not give up. They persevere through their obstacles and overcome. They are brave and deserve to be on the same playing field as the other students who do not face such obstacles.
My Project
Having a variety of seating options in our classroom and classroom library will maximize the engagement my students will have during our school day. With the help of your donations to our project, my students will be able to select the type of seat they would like to sit in for the day. They will have the option of a bean bag chair or a swivel chair. These items will allow my students to enjoy learning while feeling relaxed. These special seats will give my students a sense of comfort, a quiet place they may not get at home, and an opportunity to read without any pressure. This is their time to use their imagination, to travel to the setting of the story, and to feel the emotions of the characters.
Flexible seating will motivate my students even more and get them excited about reading a story, writing in their daily journals, solving math problems and predicting what will happen during a science experiment.
These seating options will bring a fun, yet calming, relaxation aid to our classroom just by giving students the option. They would be great for my little friends who like to move or wiggle while doing their work. This will be a great way to help them stay on task.
My class will also benefit from having a big magnetic teaching clock to help learn how to tell time. The one hundreds pocket charts will be a fun and exciting way to learn how to skip count and can even be used for addition and subtraction problems. Our classroom currently does not have a calendar. Having a calendar would be a great asset to have in our classroom for birthdays and special events. We also need ink for our classroom printer.
