Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the most brilliant, inquisitive, thoughtful, kind, silly and wonderful little humans I've ever had the privilege to know. Unfortunately, many of my students have experienced trauma and poverty at a very young age.
Our school is a Title I School and all students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Despite their setbacks, my students are eager learners, excited about the world around them and happy to come to school. They are learning to read, write, and to solve math problems on their own. Unfortunately, most of my students' families do not have the funds to supply them with the basic necessities for school such as pencils or crayons, despite being incredibly hard-working individuals.
I want to supply my amazing students with the tools that they need in order to feed their eager, bright minds! They deserve an enriching, equitable education, and I want to ensure I can provide it to them.
My Project
Recently, our school has been blessed with a set of iPads and we've paid for an incredible adaptive phonics program for the students to expand their literacy. Unfortunately, the app makes TONS of noise. With all the various sounds going off, none of the students can focus and hear the phonics games occurring on their iPad. I'm hoping to get this project funded so that I can give each student their OWN set of over the ear headphones which is the most sanitary option as well as provides them with a quiet opportunity to learn in a fun and engaging way.
A quiet, calm classroom is crucial to my students' learning, engagement, and comfort in our room.
I firmly believe in creating a safe space for my students and I have several kids who respond poorly to loud noises. Currently, when my students' chairs are moved they scrape across the tile ground and screech incredibly loudly. When all my students stand up at once, it sounds like a scene from Jurassic Park. My students have begged me to find a solution and I know that these "Chair Socks" are the perfect way to solve this problem once and for all.
