My Students
I am a firefighting Instructor and our class is made up of four Hispanic males, two black males, nine white males and four white females. My students are taught the NFPA Firefighter 1 and 2 National Certifications through the SC Fire Academy, in addition to these certifications they are also taught CPR/First Aid, Emergency Medical Responder, Basic Auto Extrication, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Hazardous Materials Operations. Each student also takes the OSHA 10 (10) Hour Construction class. this program is based over two (2) years.
My Project
Students are required to have Personal Protective Equipment that meets the NFPA requirements to be no older than ten years. We currently do not have enough helmets that meet the NFPA standard. By adding two additional helmets we will be able to outfit all firefighting students with their own helmets that meets the NFPA standard.
Safety and working together in teams is the highest priority of what we teach our students.
We strive to provide all our students with the safest personal protective equipment that meets the industry standards and that will allow them to be already familar with what they will be using when they are hired as paid firefighters.
