Help me give my students the tools they need for Ceramics! Each of the tools is essential for the work my students will make. The velvet underglazes will give them the chance to experiment with many surface treatments!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have a great group of diverse and enthusiastic students. We're a Title I school; a lot of our kids have tough financial situations at home. This means many students haven't had the opportunity to explore art making in the same way as kids who are raised with greater financial means. In the visual arts classes, we serve a large population of students from every grade and background.
Even those who don't necessarily consider themselves artistic can foster their creativity in a safe and fun environment in my classroom.
Often, those who come in thinking art might not be for them realize they love it and want to learn and explore new media and styles. The art room is a place where the world comes alive and creative thought is nurtured and developed.
It brings me so much joy when students tell me at the end of the year that my class has been an escape or a safe place for them. Without fail, there are always kids who tell me they thought that they could never be successful in my class because they thought they weren't artistic. Then, low and behold, they realize that they're all artists!
My Project
My Ceramics students need a few more essential tools and supplies to make their experience this school year as great as possible. They'll use these tools on a daily basis. Everything from the scoring and shaping tools, to the dipping tongs will be used for years to come in my classroom!
These supplies will equip my students to experience the most thorough exploration of what Ceramics has to offer!
Not only will the tools be treasured, but the addition of the velvet underglazes will allow my students to experiment with a vast array of surface treatments that my annual supply budget simply doesn't afford.
I'm so excited for my students to get their hands on these tools and supplies and put them to amazing creative uses!
