My students are from a high poverty area but enjoy coming to school because for some it is their safe haven. I work diligently to make art class hands on for my students to be able to express themselves. My students have surprised themselves with some of their finished products. It brings me joy to see the excitement on their face when they accomplish these goals. They are definitely my inspiration to push forward.
Our school has just recently grown by more than 150 students over the summer due to a neighboring school charging tuition fees.
This has created overcrowding in our classrooms but has also brought many new art students to our school. Our school is growing but our art program lacks the funds to provide for these up and coming artist.
My students love to learn new concepts, although they are a diverse group to work with. We try to incorporate a broad range of choices in the art room so that each student is successful. They are a great group of students to work with and I really enjoy watching them blossom into great artists.
My Project
Over the years I have observed that my students prefer more 3-dimensional art rather than drawing on paper. Whether it be with paint, clay, glue, or paper mache, they enjoy getting their hands dirty when creating art projects.
My students are eager to try new mediums and techniques to broaden their artistic minds.
They are inquisitive about art projects that require them to think outside the box. They would love to be able to delve into "real" ceramics and not air dry or salt dough clay. Creating coiled sculptures or pinch pots would be an awesome addition to the art curriculum at our school.
We would love to have this requested SKUTT Ceramic Kiln to offer students more options in the art classroom. We strive every day to give the students the best tools to be successful in whatever they choose. This kiln will take our art program to new heights and make a positive difference in students' lives.
