Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am lucky enough to get to teach art to six hundred and fifty awesome artists. The students from our school come from all different backgrounds with many different languages being represented.
This diversity makes our school so special and the art room thrives with creativity.
A majority of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch, some face homelessness, and others live with guardians besides their parents. Our little artists deserve the opportunity to experience mediums that they would normally not get to work with.
My Project
Using underglazes before the student work goes into the kiln is a huge advantage. Being able to have the students working with underglazes will not only be an authentic learning experience, it will also help with the rotation of the kiln. With 650 students and only one small kiln, it is challenging when it is time for clay in the art room.
Having the opportunity to work with the requested Underglaze and special Crystaltex Glaze would be a joyful material for our students to create with.
They will be able to add vibrant color glazes & add precision details before and after bisque firing.
Allowing students to create with these underglaze and Crystaltex Glazes will be a luxury we would normally not be able to afford.
