Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school eager to learn despite the challenges they go through. My students live in a low income neighborhood and school is a second home for them. I teach a third grade special class with various learning styles and needs. Frustration levels can often become high because they don't understand things as quickly as others. My students face many challenges that many adults don't ever face in their life. Coming to school should not cause them frustration, but rather give them a sense of pride in the work they do and what they are able to accomplish.
My Project
There is no greater feeling than a student loving to learn and seeing a smile on their face because they accomplished something they thought they couldn't. We are requesting reading comprehension practice cards, and centers and math warm-ups, write and wipe pockets and dry erase markers to help their different learning needs. My students are all at various academic levels Having centers in the classroom will help my students with the challenges they face in math and literacy.
My students are currently reading at various reading levels and having literacy centers will help all of their learning needs.
Currently in our classroom library we are very short on lower leveled books. These literacy center kits will make it easier to pull groups and guide students with their reading

Math is also a subject where my student struggle. Having math centers will keep them engaged and wanting to learn instead of getting frustrated by looking at a workbook in class. These centers can also be used as small group work, partner work or independent work. My students love hands on activities and having these centers will help my students want to achieve their math goals.
