My students need 12 center resources so they are able to learn by having fun doing hands on activities and meeting the state standards for reading and writing all at the same time.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember how difficult it was to sit in a classroom for six or more hours a day listening to the teacher talk and you are required to sit still and listen? My students are energetic and would benefit from hands on learning activities that keep them engaged in the learning process.
We are a 5th grade class at a charter school in Arizona.
We are a Title I school which means we have a high percentage of low social economic families. Because of this, teachers must spend a large amount of personal money for supplies such as books, paper, pencils, etc. Being a charter school, we do not get as much funding from the state. The text books we use are recycled from local school districts. They often do not meet the state standards and are in poor condition. This requires the teachers to look elsewhere for curriculum to make sure we are meeting the state standards. Our class is wonderful! We work hard learning with the supplies that we have and have as much fun as we possibly can while doing so.
My Project
I have requested 9 reading centers activities and additional centers supplies. With these, my students will be able to participate in multiple hands on learning centers. The activities they will participate in meet the Arizona standards for 5th grade reading and writing. By having the opportunity to use these centers as part of my everyday teaching allows the students to get out of their seats and work with their peers. If given the opportunity to get these centers, my students will be able to grow academically and have fun while doing so. It is difficult for children (and adults) to sit for long periods of time and be expected to comprehend everything they hear. By being awarded this project, students will be able to use visuals and hands on activities to help them understand the concepts being taught. Not every student learns best from listening to lecture. Including centers in my curriculum allows me to reach every type of learner and help them succeed to the best of their ability.
By receiving the centers that we are requesting, students will benefit more than you know.
They will be able to grow academically and have fun while doing so. These centers are something that I will be able to use on a regular basis not only with this current class, but my future classes as well. Learning is a difficult task for many students. Having the opportunity to participate in hands on learning activities will help my students be excited to participate and learn!
