This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students being served for this grant, all come from homes where income is a challenge. In addition to these struggles, many also do not have a permanent home, either through homelessness or foster care. Providing the students with immediate and consistent access to learning tools will both increase their learning abilities, but in addition, will provide them with access to coding practice, which will prepare them for life.
Centers will provide practice for both self-regulatory skills as well as academic exposure.
The small group support to these students, who based on either IEP or 504 plan accommodations, truly need to use these tools in a small group setting. Some have limited access in their classrooms, but due to their academic and social emotional development, are not able to demonstrate their full potential.
The centers will make a tremendous impact on their excitement in the school environment and will make up the deficits they cannot achieve either at home or in their general education settings. This will also provide mirrored exposure, that exists in their classroom setting, but typically they typically struggle with in their general education setting.
My Project
If you tell a child how to do something, they will listen, if you show them they will watch, if you allow them to do it themselves, they will learn!
My students simply do not have access that provides them with consistent practice.
They have heard how they will fail, from a myriad of sources outside of the learning environment. We want to help them not only practice, but to truly believe they can accomplish anything they set their minds to do.
These centers will accomplish just that, in a manageable environment that will enable them to succeed and thrive!
