This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My Kindergarten to 3rd-grade resource groups are such exciting groups. My kids have an amazing variety of abilities and individual goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, count, add and subtract while others are learning life skills, manners and how to socialize. My groups, just like their typically developing peers love to play outside, learn new games, boogie to a sweet tune and work on their own independent level. We are part of a larger school that celebrates inclusion.
As my students make gains in my classroom, they begin to feel more comfortable and confident in their general education classroom.
My classroom is about building skills to feel confident both socially and academically. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate little wins together each day.
My Project
These centers will continue to enhance the movement and flexibility I try to create in my classroom. Centers are my students' favorite thing, most days they ask "What centers are open today?" All of these centers have been chosen with my students in mind-they all target skills and standards that are required for their grade levels.
Students will be able to choose centers, which will help them continue to enjoy independent learning time.
With these new centers, my students will be able to choose from a variety of learning opportunities that will allow them to work independently at their own grade level. They will also be able to choose centers that best support their needs.
