This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are first graders that go to an independent charter school that focuses on science. A substantial portion of my student population comes from families that are financially struggling, for example 95.5% of our students have free or reduced lunch.
They are hard working and dedicated students.
They try their best and can not wait to learn more. All students need time for educational games, differentiated centers, interactive centers, to decompress, play, have fun, spend time with peers, and earn rewards.
My Project
With the use of the iPads I can track their learning and progress through reading and other educational Apps. I would love to use the Epic! App and create student profiles for reading enhancement. They have the option to choose between genres to practice reading on their own or using their listening skills to increase comprehension and fluency strategies. I can monitor and track their progress in reading. I am also planning on using other apps like ABC Mouse, Brain Pop Jr., flash card Apps, and other spelling Apps to increase knowledge.
Differentiation with iPads is extremely important and logical.
Early finishers can have research tasks, students who are struggling can have apps based on need, accessibility options turned on etc. During center time I can put center response sheets on the iPads through Showbie. Which will cut down on paper usage. When it is used with integrity, technology changes how our students feel about learning and allows them to open doors we may have not seen in the past.
