Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school. My students face challenges every day in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they are so excited about school. School is a safe place for them, a place where no one can hurt them, physically or emotionally. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch because, for many students, school is the only place where they will be able to eat.
Although odds may be against them, they have the perseverance to succeed in school.
They are some of the most resilient students and are ready to learn every day. My focus is to give them a rich learning environment with positive experiences and hope for their future. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best.
My Project
Manipulatives are physical objects that are used as teaching tools to engage students in the hands-on learning of mathematics. Putting math manipulatives into the hands of my students will allow them to dig deeper into the math they are learning.
Research shows that using math manipulatives gives students the opportunity to get a concrete understanding of mathematics.
I would like to add pattern blocks and fraction dice to our center time to make that time more fun and engaging for my fifth graders. The clipboard stand will help my classroom stay neat and organized after students are finished using them.
