I teach children with varying exceptionalities, such as specific learning disabilities, autism, vision impairment, and cerebral palsy. My students are at least two grade levels behind their same age peers.
We are a Title I school which means many of the children come from impoverished backgrounds.
They have parents that are absentee, intellectually disabled, or not well educated. Many students are part of the Hunger Project which helps feed them on weekends.
In my room, the students are able to work on their level and at the pace they need. We are trying to ensure that they get the most out of their education.
My Project
My students need a lot of one-on-one time or small groups in order to be successful.
Center time is when students work independently or collaboratively with a few other students in order to feel successful.
These products will help us keep centers fun and interesting for the students. The Math Hot Dots will be a center a student can do independently in order to become more fluent with their math facts through 20. The Main Idea Hot Dots will be used during reading groups so that staff can focus on one child while the other students are working on their own. The Magnet kit and K'Nex will be used on Fridays when we set up STEM centers for the students to rotate through.
