This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My Kindergarten students, some of whom I haven't had the chance to meet face-to-face due to the Covid pandemic, reside in a poverty stricken area where out of school learning opportunities and exposure to books and enrichment activities are limited. Many of my students face challenges beyond their control and lack many necessities. School was their safe place. My goal each day is to make sure my students leave me virtually or in-person feeling loved and appreciated and enjoy learning as much as I do.
Our school is a Pre-K-8 Title I school.
100% of our students qualify for free lunch. Although my students face many economic challenges, they are always excited about school, enthusiastic, and ready to learn! Every school day is a new learning experience for them.
My Project
I would like to provide my students with tools for learning while they are learning virtually. Reducing screen time is a must for my young learners. Through the use of hands-on learning materials my students can continue to learn when not sitting in front of a computer screen.
My Kinders can benefit immensely from individualized learning centers while at home during the pandemic.
Task cards, folder games, and sight word matching games will increase skills needed in Kindergarten. These games and center activities will engage students in a fun, interactive way.
