I work in a small, primary, public school in Bronx, New York. Many of the students in my school come from broken homes and have little money. My classroom is an inclusion classroom, which means there are both special education students and general education students. Being in an inclusion class means having a wide range of academic levels as well as emotional and behavioral issues. Given the large range of these levels, most of my teaching must be done in small groups. The supplies I am requesting are for students to work in as centers. Centers means independent activities that the students rotate doing. The entire class will use each center, but at different times. While students are meeting with me to work on a skill, the other students will participate in these center activities. This way, students are actively engaged and continuing to practice the skills they are learning. If the students are focused on the center activities, it leaves little time for behavior problems to arise.
I would appreciate these supplies so that my students become independent learners who are never bored in school. If my students are working on the center activities, I have more time to focus on my small group lessons. The best part of these supplies are that they come with a number of levels so that all of my students will feel successful.
