This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Most of my students come from low income families of the county. A lot of them are technology genius but Mathematically challenged students. A number of them don't have access nor have their own personal phone.
To make use of their strengths and inclinations to technology, they are being exposed to the use of these gadgets to learn and love the subject in a fun and different way.
A lot of available and free cellphone apps like Kahoot and Algebra Nation will be utilized for students to learn Math differently.
My Project
Cellphone has always been a problem among teachers across the globe. Students lack focus for constantly checking their phones in the middle of the class. But what about I use these phones as instructional material instead? Yes, that's the BIG idea of this project! As a Math teacher, I have been using free cellphone apps like Kahoot and online Math videos from Algebra Nation to support learning Math. My students love it a lot! They look forward and ask for more of it! My problem is that not all of my students, especially those from low income families, have access nor have personal phone. I chose to use phones for they are cheaper and faster compared to android tablets available in the market.
