My Students

My kindergarten to fifth grade students are the most wonderful kids in the world! Really! They are a very diverse population: African-American, Arabic, Asian, Caucasian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, Native American...at least 20 languages or dialects are represented. We are a true melting pot population which is approximately 1,100 strong.

We are a Title I school with at least 90% of our students qualifying for free or reduced rate breakfast and lunch programs.

Many of our families are lead by a single parent, a grandparent or a recent immigrant who work at low-wage jobs and, frequently, multiple jobs just to "put food on the table".

My Project

Our school has an after-school strings program but we are missing a "bass" pitch foundation. With the purchase of an Etude Cello Outfit we can obtain that foundation. Adding the Xeros cello strap will make it easier for the player to keep the instrument in place while playing. The Sherman resin will help the bow "stick" in place and the extra set of D'darrio strings will be ready "just in case" strings need to be replaced.

Studying music is proven to strengthen a students' educational experience, this cello might be the "thing" for a special student who is searching for his or her place in the world of middle school or high school.
