I have been a teacher at my High School for 37 years. I have had the opportunity to witness a wide variety of students walk through my door. It is my privilege to be teaching and to be able to provide our students with the latest and necessary materials for their project based learning. I have students with a variety of learning styles in each class and all levels of learning is a priority.
I teach 4 sections of Sustainable Agriculture Biology; this class is a NGSS course with hands-on through project based learning being the focus.
I have 137 students a day through my classroom and am so excited about the potential for my students to be able to use the cell models to bring science to life. Since students learn in different ways these kits will allow all students to grasp the concepts of the parts, functions and importance of plant and animal cells. It will allow them to retain this knowledge for the rest of the course work.
I chose these models because it will be a hands-on activity that all 137 of my students can engage in. More than half of students come from low‑income households; in some cases they have moved multiple time and have missed parts of their education in their lower grades. These models will help to catch them up to their grade level.
These cell models will make a difference in my students lives as they will learn the information 3 ways, through interactive notes, drawings and then there will cement their knowledge by using the hands-on models of the cells and using their elbow partners to practice.
