My students are creative, innovative problem-solvers. They are resilient and come to school despite the challenges and trauma in their lives. Once a thriving factory city, my students are from an urban district that has been recently plagued by gang violence. Despite challenges, they show up for school everyday, eager and excited to learn.
There are 155 sixth graders who attend a middle school where many of the students live in poverty.
Students come to school with social and emotional challenges, nutritional deficits, and cognitive lags. They come from many different countries, and speak many different languages. They come to our school. Our school provides them a safe learning environment where students can reach their potential.
If this project is funded, I will be able to use the digital microscope to help students view many different types of cells. Most of my students have never used a microscope before, and we have currently only 7 working old compound microscopes at the middle school for all 4 grades to share. The old compound microscopes can be difficult for students to use.
By providing students with a digital microscope, students will view an enlarged version of what is seen looking under a microscope.
It allows all students access what can be seen with a microscope. Furthermore, this microscope can capture, measure, annotate, and edit images from a microscope. Students will be able to access and have images of what was viewed and can use those images when speaking or writing about cells.
