Art will change students and my students need the arts to discover their own potential as they face many hardships daily as the school is extremely high poverty. My school is a Title I (100% free breakfast and lunch) school where students face many challenges before even entering the school building.
The students need the arts in order to discover their own potential and to see that there are other perspectives and opportunities outside of their environment.
Art is a visual language, and the work they create will help them in all academics, as they will be writing, sketching, and designing daily. I hope that the arts will be able to empower students to see their potential.
My Project
My amazing art students come from all over the world, and they are very proud of their home cultures and cuisines.
The Universal Yums snack boxes will allow for great treats and incentives as well as a way for students to share in the cultures and tastes from around the world.
As most of my students receive free lunch from school, many are not able to bring in or have snacks from their home communities as much as they would like. Food always creates wonderful bridges and discussions and I would love for students to see the inclusiveness of snacks from around the world. Students need food, and what better way to have cross-cultural connection than through our taste buds!
