My students need the Social-Emotional Development Bundle and People Colors Crayon packs to create more opportunities to learn about and celebrate diversity in our school and community.
My students are hard-working and love to learn about social emotional regulation through classroom lessons and Second Step curriculum. Our school supports social emotional development and has scheduled time into our master schedule to teach students about their emotions and allow time to learn how to manage their feelings and navigate through life's sometimes difficult social situations.
Students at our school enjoy learning about how they can be in control of their emotions, set goals to be a life-long learner, and celebrate who they are and the people they will meet on their educational journey.
My Project
I teach classroom guidance lessons in every classroom. One of my units concentrates on diversity in our schools. Depending on the grade level students will discuss physical differences, cultural backgrounds, family structures, and cognitive/behavioral disabilities in our schools. By sharing books that explore diversity and present information in a kid-friendly way students can feel comfortable asking questions about differences. The crayons will also allow all my students to feel included in activities that ask them to draw pictures of themselves and/or their family members. I am very excited to try the new games and read new books about this topic with my students!
This project will provide resources that can be used to enhance my lessons and allow students to become more active in learning about diversity.
