Do you remember the excitement you felt as a child waiting in anticipation for an upcoming holiday or for the change of seasons? I want to turn this enthusiasm into learning opportunities for my students through engaging texts to display in the classroom throughout the year.
My students are an amazing group of 2nd and 3rd graders in an urban public school in Washington state.
They are smart, funny, curious and energetic! There are four languages spoken in my classroom and students come from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. They love to learn and I do everything I can to keep that love going!
My Project
With every season change and each upcoming holiday, my students are filled with questions: Why do the leaves change colors? Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving? What is a leprechaun? I love how interested my students are in these different topics, but I can't always answer all of the many questions they have. It would be so great to have a variety of books about seasons and holidays available to my students to satisfy their curiosity and provide many new learning opportunities for them!
Your donation to this project will enable my students to read and learn about the seasons and holidays of which they are so curious.
They will be able to build background knowledge surrounding holidays they are unfamiliar with and be able to connect with their classmates who celebrate those different holidays. With these books, students will not only be able to enter the different seasons with eagerness and joy, but with knowledge from the texts.
