My Students
Someone once told me, "We don't hate on people we know," so let's get to know each other! When we take the time to learn about people and truly get to know them, we are more likely to act out of kindness towards them. As a teacher, it is my job to create an environment in which my students are comfortable, embraced, and empowered to learn.
The most effective learning will occur in a classroom that celebrates and honors the diversity that our students bring with them each and every day.
When students are embraced, supported, and honored for their differences, contributions, and beauty, they build confidence and and comfort and become more open and willing to participate.
My Project
The resources requested in this project allow people to take pride in who they are, and remind us the importance of inclusion and respect of all. The anti-bullying posters, buttons, and shirts will be worn and displayed to show support for those who may have been victimized, and remind others to always show respect and kindness. The multicultural books, backgammon, and mancala will be shared and available for students to read, play, represent their culture and share it with others. The hummingbird feeder is just a little something to make a welcoming environment where people feel welcomed and included. Lastly, the affirmation cards are something that I plan to use every week and have the students recite, reflect, and internalize.
My students need to know that they have a safe space to be themselves, honor who they truly are, and to accept and respect others.
