My Students
I teach third grade at a diverse, Title I school in southwest Florida. Sixty-one percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our students come from numerous cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Through lots of hard work, our school continues to help our students succeed.
I encourage a lot of independent reading time in my classroom, and I expect my students to read from a range of genres. The biography section of our classroom library is in the middle of a major makeover! I have been working hard this year to provide my students with more diverse historical events and people to read about!
My Project
For this project, I am requesting biographies about inspirational women (both historical and current) to add to our classroom library. Many of these books, such as the books in the "Rookie Reader" series, are at a perfect grade level to make them accessible to my students. Others are award-winning and inspiring picture books with amazing illustrations to support my readers. My students love to read biographies, and I need a greater variety of this genre to keep their interest! It is my hope to build up enough biographies about inspirational women to create a separate biography tub in my library for them.
Readers of all ages can find much to consider, relate to, and celebrate when they read stories of people who’ve had an impact on our lives and culture. I hope that having access to these books provides my students with the ability to learn more about the important contributions of women in the past and today. Thank you for helping me provide this inspiration for my students!
