Our students come from a diversity of cultures. Many of our students come from low income households who have limited resources. However, when they come into school each day, they are eager and ready to learn and explore.
Our school provides a safe, nurturing, loving, consistent, and structured environment to meet the individualized needs of all children.
Our children enjoy doing hands on activities and take pride in their work. Our children love to have their artwork displayed throughout the classroom, as well as the school.
As our teachers work as a team, we strive to teach the importance of teamwork, respect and acceptance with one another. Our classrooms are all inclusive; therefore, all children, even with challenges, have the opportunity to engage in all activities.
My Project
Because our students come from different economic backgrounds, they do not always have the opportunity or resources to explore and create openly with a variety of art materials. We encourage open-ended art as a way of learning, communicating, and self -expression. Art is also a form of therapy for some, and while the children get to create, they feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. We will be displaying each child's unique masterpiece in our first annual, school art show.
The donations to this project will help give our students more opportunities to be creative in the classroom.
We hope to inspire our parents and caregivers, as well as other educators. As educators, we want to encourage students to explore and learn more about the arts and make them feel comfortable enough to show self-expression through color and texture. Art should be made available to children daily, and not having the materials and resources makes it very challenging. Having a support system within our community helps make our visions come true.
Having our first annual art show, in our school, will provide a venue to bring cultural diversity and awareness to our children and families.
The materials we hope to receive will play many different roles for our children supporting multiple areas of our Creative Curriculum. This will help enable our non-verbal speakers to express themselves freely and with confidence. The students will have the chance to utilize the different materials, and expand and develop their language skills, critical thinking skills, as well as communication skills. If we receive these materials, the children will have the opportunity to explore and create with new and different kinds of art media. Using these art materials will also help them develop their fine motor skills, which is needed badly for kindergarten readiness.
