Help me give my students inclusive books and multicultural crayons that will provide experiences and opportunities that celebrate diversity and promote greater inclusion and equity for all students in our SWECC community.
My students attend school in the heart of Missouri. They qualify for the free or reduced-price meal program. Our students come from diverse ethnic backgrounds where their family units may encounter various daily challenges that include: single parenting, unemployment, incarceration, homelessness, hunger, and poverty.
My prekindergarten students are inquisitive and eager to learn!
They enjoy singing and participating in activities that involve building and actively discovering with their classmates. I want all of my students to feel safe while having fun, active, and multi-sensory experience in school!
My Project
Project DIVE will provide learning experiences and activities celebrating diversity and promoting greater inclusion and equity for all students enrolled in the our preschool program and Parents As Teachers (PAT) program.
Project DIVE is a four-week program designed to take approximately 30 minutes each week.
DIVE stands for different, interesting, variety, and everyone-each word will be the theme of a weekly lesson and accompanying activities. For example, in the first week the requested book "It's Okay to Be Different" by Todd Parr will be read and discussed. The theme of this book supports the lesson key components addressing what being different means along with noticing, respecting, and appreciating what makes us all different. The Crayola "Colors of the World" skin tone crayons will allow students opportunities to find colors that match their own skin tone and their family. During the first week, students will use these crayons to color a children around the world page.
Project DIVE strives to create an environment where all students feel a strong sense of belonging and where their similarities and differences of identity and experience are acknowledged, understood, valued, and celebrated.
