My Students

Our 65 first graders at our Washington, D.C., public school are bright students who love learning about the world around them through literature.

We are a diverse school.

Students travel from all over the district to attend school each day, with only 24% of students coming from in-boundary. Our student population is 44% Black, 16% Latino, 27% White, and 7% Asian. Ten percent of the students at our school are English Language Learners, one in five students come from economically disadvantaged families, and we are home to a significant number of kids from military families.

We can't wait to help our students learn and grow this year!

My Project

At our school, we value diversity. As one of the most diverse schools in DC, we are seeking to increase our book diversity. We strive for the first-grade classroom libraries to represent our students. Our project includes a variety of books featuring diverse characters - young women and men, characters of colors, many different religions, and different incomes. To further diversify student knowledge, we've included nonfiction books. This project will allow students to explore the deep sea, weather, places, and more.

All students deserve the opportunity to read text that represents their lives.

As students see themselves in text and learn about the world, their engagement increases leading to increased success. Please help us fund this amazing project for our amazing students.
