Help me give my students tools to promote diversity and celebrate our differences. We want to create personalized shirts to celebrate our differences. We also need to have deep conversations about diversity.
As a counselor in a newer charter high school (starting our second year), I do not ever have a "typical" day. Each day brings something new and exciting, and the students I work with surprise me everyday.
Our students are excited to have the opportunity to attend our unique school.
These students come from all different, diverse cultural backgrounds and have different living situations. Our whole school works really hard to help keep students engaged and parents informed about what is going on at school. I work with students who are struggling with different things or that might need a little extra attention individually, in small groups, as well as in classroom guidance lessons. Many of these kids just need a little extra push to help them with making good decisions and being able to start solving their problems on their own. We have many students who are dealing with the effects of poverty and even homelessness. I want to equip these students with the skills they need to move forward into their future.
The Cricut and Vinyl sheets will allow my students to create customized t-shirts to celebrate diversity and our cultural differences. This year, I am looking to implement a kindness and community building club at our high school. Our students would love to be able to create specialized shirts that reflect and celebrate their cultural identities. The students all come from such diverse backgrounds, and do not always have an opportunity to share their background or celebrate their culture.
Additionally, I am requesting tools that can be used as an icebreaker to start these conversations on diversity and cultural differences.
It is important that students learn about each other and their differences and this knowledge will help them have a greater appreciation for their classmates. The ball and book I'm requesting should be great tools to help start these conversations and get the students thinking about their differences and what makes them who they are. They all have their own unique identity, and it's important that they have a way to express themselves and share their identity with their fellow students.
