My Students
The pre-kindergarten to 3 students enrolled in my dual-language (English and Spanish) classroom each year, represent many languages, and countries. Most students are from South and Central America. Other countries represented include Lebanon, Nigeria,, Israel Italy, and Spain, to name a few.
While several students have an Individual Education Plan (IEP), there are other students who have developmental delays.
Yet, they are all in the process of developing self-esteem, which if nurtured, and cultivated properly, will propel them into the future with all kinds of positive opportunities awaiting them!
Consequently, it is imperative that my students receive plentiful opportunities to engage in rich experiences inside, and outside of the classroom. An emphasis is placed on the acquisition of English and Spanish-speaking skills, and the development of vocabulary, thereby ensuring early success in learning, through literacy and the arts!
My Project
Opportunities for young children to engage in early music experiences - promotes cultural awareness, and respect for others. Rhythm instruments from various cultures, such as drums, shakers, maracas, kazoos, and other percussion instruments - provide a unique opportunity for my young learners to build confidence in their abilities; and to become comfortable while learning through music- how other people live; As they become responsive to the various genres of music, and literacy experiences - my Pre-K/Special Needs students will most certainly develop socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively - while interacting with instruments, and music that represent their linguistically, and culturally-diverse backgrounds! They will become even more culturally-responsive, and respectful of others - as global citizens.
