My high school art students are an eclectic bunch. We have a mix of ethnic backgrounds, many are economically challenged, some are highly driven to be expressive, and some are just looking to make a visually appealing piece they can be proud of. All my students seem to enjoy having a daily class devoted to fostering their creativity.
I have found one secret to getting my high school students engaged in a project, is to encourage them to incorporate something they are passionate about in their lives.
Over the years, I have seen a huge variety of subjects incorporated and I have learned a lot about my students based on their choices. I get new insight into their lives. Everything from favorite movies to famous cities they want to visit. And once the dialog starts, connections can be made.
The mattes that I would like to purchase with your donations, would enable me to hang artwork in the community and have it look more professional. The framing created by the mattes, helps it stand out from the surrounding surfaces and gives it a clean look. Additionally, it protects the pieces from damage by anchoring it flush to the wall.
My art students would be so excited and proud to see their work hanging up in local businesses with a professional matte!
We have a thriving art community, here in Milwaukee, with various gallery events featuring a wide range of styles and media. It would be great to showcase what our local schools are doing to foster the visual arts. Please consider a donation to support our project.
