Hello, I am a staff developer and reading teacher at the Harlem Day Charter School in NY. I have requested not to be fully out of the classroom by working with a reading group in grade 2. This group of students has been identified as "at risk" because they are not reading at grade level. Over the course of the last few months as I have gotten to know this group of second graders, I have come to realize that a large part of their slow progression is that they do not have resources at home to enhance what they are doing in school. Although they have borrowed from my resource library, I have gotten them some books through scholastic and have given from my collection, they are very much in need of readers that they will enjoy and that can be used to encourage reading at home. I am asking for a donor to supply each of the 8 students with a "book bag" of books (levels L-P) and other supplies needed to complete homework assignments. This project will help my 8 at risk second grade readers to have the materials at home to continue learning and build a stronger connection between home and school. On behalf of the students at Harlem Day Charter School... thank you for your support!
