Celebrate Good Times: Positive Behavior Success With Trolls & Sonic
Help me give my students access to their favorite character items, including Troll and Sonic the Hedgehog items and games, for additional reinforcements and encouragement for our positive behavior plan!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our Title I school is located in Northern Mississippi. We have a wonderful group of family and students! I am a special education teacher for PreK-2nd Grade students. My students have a wide variety of learning characteristics and special education eligibilities with most sensory and/or behavior needs.
Each child enters our school with their own sense of wonder and curiosity, while also having their own individual needs.
My student's needs greatly vary from non-verbal to children high functioning on the Autism Spectrum. Some have language needs- receptive, expressive, and/or articulation, as well as health concerns or disabilities.
Due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, our families were given a choice between full-time in-person instruction and full-time virtual learning instruction. All of our teachers, including myself, teach both sets of students throughout the week!
Our classroom and school is a special place where children receive the love, resources, and accommodations needed to learn and grow each day!
My Project
What is your motivation to go to work? I love my job, but I also know I need to go to pay bills and support my personal children. Some children just love school! I was one of those children. Other students, including my personal daughter and my classroom students, find school to be hard work and need additional motivation to stay focused each day and to follow the expected rules and behaviors.
My students were given supervised access to Amazon to pick out their favorites items to add to our Positive Behavior reward area in our room!
I'm ready to "Celebrate Good Time and Behavior" with all of my students! The last 20-30 minutes of our day is used as a positive reinforcement time with free exploration of my students' favorite characters and toys! This time is also used to teach social skills! It's a win-win for the students and for me in the form of teachable moments!
Sonic the Hedgehog and Trolls are both popular characters in our room! Students were very excited to see the Sonic and Troll games and especially excited about the plastic play Sonic and Troll Characters and cake topper toys! They were intrigued by the magnetic wooden block set and wanted a new Lego set in our afternoon reward area! The Sonic Pinball toy and booster spheres were especially loved by all!
I added the Thomas the Train Mini-trains and Minecraft and Sonic Backpacks as a surprise to add to our classroom PBIS store!
Many children need extra motivation & encouragement to do their best work & follow through with their best behavior! My job is to find what motivates them! Since I went straight to the kids to ask, there is no doubt these items will be truly motivational to my students!
