My students are UNIQUE. They are resilient. They are hardworking. They are true to themselves. They are honest. They are helpful. They are perfectly flawed. They are scientists. They are mathematicians. They are book worms. They deserve everything good that the world has to offer.
Each of them has a different story to tell.
They come from a wide range of backgrounds. They strive to become better little humans each day. They are kind to one another, and help one another when they get "stuck".
I need to attend a conference to learn about the newest research in the area of Exceptional Student Education. In order to attend, I need transportation to get there and lodging during the conference. There are presentations offered specifically in youth mental health, ESE and transitioning, specific strategies for increasing success in struggling readers, and many more. My students receive systematic, explicit, rigorous instruction throughout the school day, but advanced research in the areas of learning and social-emotional awareness will allow me to support my students in both academic and non-academic areas.
Through this conference, I believe that I can become a provider of valuable instruction and knowledge that can bridge gaps and help overcome barriers, as well as provide other instructors with the tools to do the same.
There are sessions that I plan to attend that discuss how we can provide these same tools and research findings to parents to benefit the students at home, and promote consistency with skills across settings. This will increase parent-teacher involvement and will be an excellent resource to use during our Parent Teacher Association events and meetings. I look forward to attending this conference and educating teachers and parents on research and instruction strategies upon my return.
