Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located on the south side of our town. We have over 1,200 students ranging from Pre K to eighth grade. In 2008, we had the opportunity to open up a brand new “High School Prep Center” housing our seventh and eighth grade students. We have a state of the art computer lab in addition to an art lab and ever-growing library. Our school creates a safe and welcoming environment for our students. They work hard academically and socially. We are currently a 1+ school!
My Project
Social Emotional Issues affect students every day. I would like to create a newsroom for our students to create local news on issues that are current in the school and social setting.
We would create a green room for the students to write and edit their own news.
We would then use the Apple TVs to stream the newsfeed in every classroom once a week. Students will be able to express themselves freely and in an appropriate way. Students will learn how to speak publicly, create news stories, edit their own show, and watch themselves on the big screen at their school by using the Apple TV! They will be encouraged to talk to students about their concerns and be the voice of the students at the school. As the MTSS coordinator and Behavioral Health Team Lead I would be responsible for all of the materials received for this project. I cannot wait to see the students gain confidence and great social skills throughout this process.
