This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the most amazing and hard-working students who don't allow their disability to dictate their future. They always put their best foot forward, despite any challenges they may face.
Although they face a variety of challenges in life, it never dampens their spirit.
They always give their all in everything they do, so that they are able to reach their maximum potential. They don't allow their diagnosis of autism, intellectual disability or other health impairment shape their reality. They always push themselves to their limits.
My Project
The big heart and big smiles describe the amazing students that I work with. My department has successfully opened and run a student-led coffee shop, which teaches my students not only job skills but gives them hands-on learning. The students use a Keurig to make coffee, which is sold to create revenue for community-based learning. They are learning concrete job-related skills such counting money, and customer service skills as well using numbers to identify delivery locations.
Every morning the staff is greeted with an abundance of love and a quality cup of $1 coffee that is made and delivered by my students.
They are learning customer service skills, inventory, and functional math skills daily.
