Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are ready to change the world. They just may not realize it yet. Coming from backgrounds that have challenged them, just not academically, my students tend to get to us 2 - 3 levels behind grade level.
Students are then immersed in a college-ready curriculum receiving additional support.
This could include additional ELA classes to increase fluency, phonics and spelling and additional math classes, where they can work on computers at their own pace.
Despite all their challenges outside of our school, our students have a whatever it takes attitude. They go above and beyond what is needed to accomplish what they set their minds too.
My Project
Our students have started a middle school and a high school student led Christian Club. These will serve as the curriculum needed to have meaningful conversations around faiths, beliefs, love, understanding and what it means to be the difference you want to see in the world.
Students have been the advocates for these types of organizations.
They have approached teachers and asked for these outlet. They lead the conversations, ask the tough questions and have been the examples of how we should treat each other.
By gifting these books you are allowing students to use this the teacher guidebooks to as the curriculum to lead conversations, teach each other using the student workbooks and have a structured lesson to teach from as they work through the books together. These meetings are led by students and are for students and we will be using both sets of guidebooks, workbooks simultaneously as we meet with high school and middle school student separately. The additional books are to enhance the conversations already happening, deepen students search for their own identity and strengthen the skills they have already begun to develop. Skills such as advocating for oneself, leadership, planning events, reading non-fiction, reading to edify and build oneself and public speaking.
Our students are the leaders of today.
The miscellaneous items such as the deodorants and toothbrushes are for the everyday need of students who may need hygiene products.
