My Students

I have the pleasure of teaching a diverse group of 7th-grade students that attend a Title I public junior high school located in Southern California. Although many students may come from different socioeconomic situations, they are motivated to make a better life for themselves and family.

High expectations are the norm in my classroom and the kids know it.

I work hard to create engaging lessons for my kids, so they can become critical thinkers. Although it takes a lot of work, it is 100% worth it!

My Project

Kids need outlets to show off their creativity. In a traditional classroom day, there is a great deal of required learning, sometimes at the cost of individual creativity. As I try to create greater learning opportunities for my 7th graders to have a voice in their learning, I often wonder, "What are they passionate about?". "What do they want to learn about...?"

It's time to let my student's imagination fly!

Materials requested for this project will give students an opportunity to showcase their passion, by submitting multi-media posters, and 3-D projects. Whether it's creating an interactive presentation on how roller coasters work, to researching why Pluto is no longer considered a planet (and creating a 3-D model of Pluto), or even investigating what makes a great chocolate chip cookie- students will be steering their learning.

The display boards for tablets will be a great interactive display for a student's powerpoint presentation on their chosen passion project. Imagine walking up to the poster and being surprised to see a digital presentation on forest preservation! The LEGO Make Your Own Movie kits will be used by students interested in making movies about their topic of interest. This will inspire future filmmakers and animators. And for those students who like a more traditional presentation tool, the markers, pens, glue, and borders will certainly enhance their posters and energize them to go beyond the minimum. My students will be able to demonstrate their individuality, as they create and publish their passion projects.
