Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

The "caught in the act of being good" project is a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiative supporting and responding to students’ social and emotional needs on a school-wide basis.

Caught in the act of being good is a way to promote kindness and spread kindness to others.

The teacher will actively look for students that exhibit an identified behavior for the quarter. Such as helping others, sharing, and volunteering. Teachers will provide the student with a ticket. The ticket can be used to claim a prize in the school PBIS store.

In addition, on a quarterly basis provide a rewards program that promotes perfect attendance, punctuality, reduced discipline referrals, and class participation. Quarter one will be a popcorn snack. Quarter 2 will be a cotton candy snack. Quarter 3 will be an ice cream social. Also, quarter 4 will be a movie day.

The Algebra Functions and Data Analysis students will design and conduct experimental surveys. The students will gather information on peers’ perceptions of schoolwide kindness to determine the effect of the PBIS rewards program. Using technology students will create and analyze displays of their data on tables and graphs. Upon debating the pros and cons of the rewards program students will submit proposals for the PBIS Rewards Program improvement.
