My students are the most curious, intrigued, entry level programmer type students that you will ever meet. They come to school smiling, ready to take on the challenges of the day. They have to work hard. Many of them are second language learners. All of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch and once a month, Second Harvest brings my children nourishing fruits and vegetables. Life is not easy for them, but nothing is going to stop them from learning and being the best they can be.
My Project
With a Chromebook, my students will use our district's i-Ready program to practice reading, math and programming during workshop time. This is a time during the day when I can work with students on their specific needs or gaps in their education. My students are at many different levels. Some of them are working on reading comprehension while others are working on math skills. We also have a new Language Arts Program that requires research on a daily basis. This is a challenge as our library is not up-to-date and cannot provide enough materials for 3 classrooms. The students who have worked hard get rewarded the during last part of the time by getting to program using the Code website. It is a very difficult task to address the specific needs of each child, but with a Chromebook, it is a very possible one. In addition, with the Chromebook my students will be able to research various topics of interest. They will be able to take virtual field trips and learn to their hearts' content
