The school I teach at has over 800 students. Slowly our enrollment has been dropping (in the past few years) causing our school to receive less funding. Many families sign up for our night events but only half of them show. We are struggling to get our parents and communities involved.
When my students enter my classroom, the majority of them are reading below grade level (some two levels behind)!
Many of them also lack basic math skills. Some students do not receive support at home and wish they could stay longer in the classroom. They do not have a lot of confidence in their abilities or what they are capable of. However, I love knowing I have impacted their lives as they have impacted mine.
My Project
Many of my students are soft-spoken and timid. Some students leave my classroom not being heard. I feel like I am always telling parents I have a hard time hearing their child because he or she speaks so softly. Many of these parents agree and struggle to have their child be more confident or find a voice. These students have great things to share in the classroom and are unable to be heard by the class so I have to repeat their thoughts or ideas for the class to hear.
I find myself repeating the same phrases, "Can you repeat what you just shared, or I can’t hear you, please talk louder." As soon as I say these phrases, some students pass and regret speaking in the first place.
The Qball Throwable Wireless Microphones will not only impact my soft-spoken students but the rest of the class as well. This will help engage and motivate students whether they want to speak into the microphone or just have a chance to throw the ball to a classmate. This essentially becomes a game and entices students to participate. Having the microphones will be a fun and productive way to increase my students' voices and engagement.
