Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our elementary school in Florida is made up of 100% free lunch students that are all in low socioeconomic families. I recently moved from second grade to 4/5 honors, and I am elated to take on the new adventure that awaits me to challenge this small population of our school that is above grade level.
About 80% of our population is below grade level and arrives at our school sometimes not knowing their name or in some cases not even speaking English.
The small group that makes the cut for honors is often overlooked because they are a small minority among a large population of struggling students. My goal is to give them every opportunity to thrive as possible by providing them with much needed outside help.
This year is also the first year that the same teachers will be teaching both 4th and 5th grade honors. Doing this allows for a unique opportunity to grow these students leaps and bounds in the two years we have them and prepare them for the ultimate experiences they might have outside of elementary school and beyond.
My Project
So much of learning is talking and listening, so what if as a teacher I could make it more fun and exciting to answer the question? The qball throwable microphone does just that by allowing students to have fun while interacting with their teacher and classmates.
