This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My awesome, college-bound AP English Literature students need books! Because our school used to be a middle school which became a span school, grades 6-12, there is a need for challenging, relevant novels for our high school students.

I work at a low income, Title 1 school at which 100% of students qualify for free lunch.

Many of my students will be the first in their families to graduate from high school. I challenge them because they need to be challenged. They need to learn that they are capable of meeting obstacles and overcoming them.

My Project

That is why I asking for Catch-22. For one thing, I think it is important to understand idioms. This novel is not only funny, challenging and engaging, but will also teach them the meaning and origin of the idiom. (A Catch-22 is a situation where conflicting rules make the desired outcome impossible.) It will also lead to discussion of themes, such as doing the right, or moral, thing in the face of a dilemma. I believe in incorporating discussions of ethics into the classroom, and this novel will certainly help facilitate that.

Donations to this project will make a big difference to my students.

I want to prepare them for college and challenge them, and I think that this novel will help me to do just that.
