My students need items to purchase with their scholar dollars to reinforce our Character Curriculum. I am requesting an assortment of toys, games, and stickers, such as animal bean bags, finger puppets, whistles, bracelets, jumping frogs, Play-Doh, etc..
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In order to uphold our promise to our scholars and their families of getting them not only to but through college. We realize it is imperative to equip them not only with the knowledge of literacy, math, science, etc. but also the character skills necessary to be successful in college and life.
Our scholars are filled with excitement and passion for learning.
Our charter school is in its fifth year and is an open enrollment school providing education to children from under-served communities across the city. Some of my students ride a bus for over an hour to get to and from school each day and still work hard throughout our extended school day to ensure that they are growing and on a path to graduate from college in 2028. 2029, 2030, 2031, and 2032!
My students live our values of love, growth and excellence on a daily basis by working hard, being nice, listening and thinking. In addition, they learn about grit, determination, open-mindedness, perseverance, kindness, integrity and many more character skills that will ensure they are able to respond and tackle and challenges and social situations they come across in life.
My Project
I am requesting items for our Character Store, which our students are able to shop at every Wednesday. They use Scholar Dollars which they earn throughout the week for showing leadership, grit, perseverance, kindness, or any other exceptional display of character that is above and beyond the expectations. I am requesting coloring books, fun pencils, and an assortment of toys to us as incentives in our store.
The Character Store not only rewards and motivates scholars to display exceptional character skills but also teaches them important money skills of saving, budgeting and being decisive in how to spend their money.
Currently, one in ten students from low-income families graduate from college.
With 99% of our students qualifying for free lunch, telling them that they will graduate from college in 2029 is great, but it's necessary to have the resources to motivate and teach the character skills necessary for being successful in college and in life. Making sure we have enough items in the character store that will motivate our scholars is important for investing scholars in our character program.
