This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Our grade 6 - 8 Autism and Emotional Support students have a need to develop the life skills to independently visit restaurants and stores. Currently, I have a toy cash register which is not age appropriate for these middle school students. I have already obtained fake bills and real coins for the students to use as they role play with their peers as customers and cashiers.
This cash register will prepare our Autistic and Emotional Support middle school students for actual visits to neighborhood stores and possible employment in the future.
Some of our students have limited social and communication skills so a solo visit to the store can be overwhelming for them. This cash register will allow them to gain money management skills in a safe and supportive environment with your help!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
