Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a first grade class in a school in Washington Heights in New York City. I am the general education teacher in a co-teaching classroom with 28 students.
Ninety percent of my school receives free lunch, meaning they are living below the poverty line.
But despite this, they come ready to learn each and every day!
My students are always looking for new learning opportunities and jumping at the chance to grow as individuals. First grade is a huge growth year in academics, as well as in every aspect of life. This class is also starting to grow in independence, and we need tools to help us do so.
My Project
The cases in this project will be used on the iPads that we currently have in the classroom. This will help them stay more protected; then, they, currently, are in the classroom. The iPads, currently, have the rubber cases that only cover the back of them. This makes the iPad screens very vulnerable when they are in the cart, being used, and being carried by students.
These cases will also be great for making the the iPads more interactive and engaging for the students.
I know, how can iPads get more engaging?! But, the current cases do not allow for students to prop the iPad up for the students to better see and manipulate the iPad. Our students are constantly trying to lean them against things or other students' iPads, although we tell them not to because it is not stable enough for the iPads to stand that way. These new cases would allow the students to prop up the iPads.
