I teach enthusiastic students who are excited to make their marks in the world. Like so many communities across the United States, we have endured economic upheaval and redefinition over the last few decades. Nonetheless, my students are resilient and eager to learn everything they can about writing, literature, rhetoric, and life. They are also eager to do good in our community and in our world. By giving students constant opportunities to do amazing things, we empower them to change anything and everything.
I would like to spend one week in an intensive Spanish language program in Cartagena, Colombia. I would like to learn Spanish for two reasons: 1. to be a better teacher for our ELL students and 2. to better understand grammar across multiple languages.
This one-week Spanish course will be the start of my language adventure.
My hope is to continue my learning by engaging with the Spanish speakers in my building. I would also like to do some summer learning programs in Central America.
The Centro Catalina School includes several cultural activities with the enrollment fees so I'll have opportunities to use what I learn out in the world.
I look forward to putting my new found skills to use in the classroom.
