My Students

Our school is located in a small, rural agricultural area. We are a kindergarten through eight grade school. Many of our students are from low income families. We also have many second language learners. Our school offers free breakfast for all students, which many take advantage of.

My students are eager to learn, are kind to one another, and always have a smile!

Our classroom needs a carpet to gather together on. This is for our classroom meetings, mini lessons, and collaborative partner work.

My Project

A classroom rug would provide a comfortable meeting area in our classroom. Students would be engaged in whole group instruction, the kids are up close and not so spread out. This would make it easier to hear for both students and teachers. It would also accommodate students who have a need to move around. They would be able to sit on the edge or back of the carpet, and get up and move without disrupting their peers. Another major advantage is that students won't have random things to play with in their desks. It would also be great during collaboration time. Students sitting together would be able to turn and talk to a partner or neighbor. Finally, moving from the meeting area to independent or partner spots around the room would provide important physical activity.
