Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a Kindergarten teacher in Santa Clara, CA. My school is a Title I school, in which 53% receive free lunch and 36% are learning English as a Second Language. Next year my class size will increase to 30 students. Many of my students have not attended preschool, and will not have had experience sitting on a carpet in a classroom. They come to school enthusiastic to learn and full of energy, but have difficulty sitting in one place on the floor. A large part of our day is spent on the carpet. We begin our day, sing, listen to stories, write together, and do the majority of our instruction on the carpet. We currently do not have a carpet large enough to accommodate 30 active children. I would like a Place for Everyone rectangular carpet for 30 students from Lakeshore Learning. With its colorful, clearly defined spaces for each student, I will be able to maximize my instructional time as each student will have a clear personal space and I will spend less time redirecting negative behaviors caused by overcrowding.
