6th grade is an exciting year in middle school! As grown up as my students would like to think they are, they still have the wiggles and long to be accepted by others. I have 96 students in my science classes this year. More than half are economically disadvantaged. My desire is to help them love learning and believe that dreams are really goals that they can achieve with hard work and the power of making positive connections with others.
My classroom is not just about learning science, but it is about building trusting relationships and building self-esteem.
There’s nothing better than having a place for students to gather to read, create projects and share their ideas! Carpet spaces encourage even the timidest students to gather together and make new friends. Creating a home environment in the classroom is more essential than ever these days. It helps build student-teacher relationships and helps create a secure place for my students to learn. Creating a home environment at school helps transcend the idea that learning can take place even in their own home, not just at school and should and can be a part of their day no matter where they are.
