Carpet for a New Kindergarten Class

My students need a large carpet with individual squares to sit on for a new kindergarten classroom.

My Students

Need a place to sit? My kindergarten students next year will! I currently teach English as a Second Language but will be teaching kindergarten next year and need a carpet for a new classroom. With budget cuts, there is little money to buy materials.

My students are high poverty and 70% of kindergarteners are English Language Learners.

24 different languages are represented at our school. Our parents struggle to make a living, many working more than one job to support their families. For some refugee families, school and education are a new experience. Class sizes are large at our school. Kindergarten classes had as many as 33 students this year, and teachers had no assistant to help them for most of the year.

My Project

Over half of the kindergarten students will start the school year with no English and no school experience. School will be a brand new experience and establishing routines is a challenge at the beginning of the year. A carpet with individual squares will help students have their own spot to sit on during whole group instruction. Students will also learn colors as they use the carpet several times each day. I will be able to call on and dismiss students by color rows, allowing for orderly transitions between activities during the school day. This carpet will make such a big difference in classroom management, leading to students' increased learning time.

This is a quality carpet that will help students in behavior management and also help them learn colors.

This carpet will last for many years and benefit classes for years to come. Students will be able to control their bodies and focus on learning at school. Thank you so much for your generous contribution! It will make a difference in the lives of many, many students!
